The Southern Tour / or short Southern Tour we did many years ago, whilst staying in Puerto De Carmen, arranged at that time by Thomsons. If you only go on one tour in Lanzarote, IMO this is the one to be on.

Both Last Minute and Tourist Ticket (using low cost or Last Minute tours) do a day time short Southern tour for 20 euros/ 10 euros kids, which includes entry to the National Park, with an optiona camel ride (which is an extra 6 euro's) and wine tasting .

There is also a half day Southern Tour done by both companies which visits other places as well for 33 euros / 20 euro's kids (includes food). Camel ride extra 6 euro's

Entry to the Park costs 9 euro's by car, you then park your car in the car park provided. The road around the volcanoes must be done in organised coaches from the car park and is included in the price.

First impressions are that you are on the moon lol, a guide tells you of the eruptions that took place in the 1700's and wiping out many villages and that another is due any time but you hope it's not this particular afternoon lol

The scenery is stunning as you can see, a photographer's heaven

after the tour you are returned to the top of the main volcano and shown three things to prove the volcano is still active. One is to watch straw being put down a hole and you see it immediately ignite.

The second event, involves a container of water being put down a hole and within 10 seconds it's shoots steam into the air.

It's a job to catch it on a photo

Then finally, you are shown the well like grill that 'the barbeque' is cooked on, during the evening, using the heat from the volcano on the Volcano Grill trip.

After this, one is taken down to the camels, where lines of the grumpest camels wait for those prepared to do the optional ride lol.

However, you do ride in the baskets

Then with the ride finished one is taken to a winery to taste some wine, which if you want, you can purchase a bottle.

On this trip with Thomson's we then visited Playa Blanca which we liked and is now where we go for a winter holiday

Evening, the Volcano Grill which I'm told is 55 euro's

Again we did this on the same holiday with Thomson's and one gets photos in a different light

One sees the same experiments (shown above) and after that you're led into a building on top of the volcano

From what I remember we had a chicken meal and the highlight was a volcano cake lit and paraded around the dining hall, which was eventually cut up and we all had portions (Not sure this is still done)

A nice evening
